Cookie Cutter Christmas - NOT Just for Christmas Cards

I have been have some fun creating cards with the fabulous new stamp sets in the Stampin' Up! Holiday Catalog. But - I don't want to do Holiday cards yet, HUM - - -  that's a problem. Or maybe not. Look at the darling Birthday Card I created.

This little bear is perfect for birday greetings. He comes from the Cookie Cutter Christmas set - and you will just love using this set.

and the set can be bundled with a coordinating punch at a 10% discount. How great is that.

The bear is stamped with Crumb Cake ink. The Bow is Marina Mist and both are punched out with the coordinating punch.  I used Stampin; Dimensionals to give everything dimension.

I used Washi Tape from the Floral Boutique Collections and the Candy Cane Lane Washi Tape.

I used the Labeler Alphabet to stamp that darling greeting in Night of Navy.

The balloons are stamped with the dots from the  fabulous set called Endless Birthday Wishes (you really must have this) and the honeycomb pattern in the Goulish Grunge set. Don't have these sets, just use your imagination.

Get busy and create an unholiday card with your Cookie Cutter Christmas Set.

Don't forget to check the Clearance Rack for great prices on Stampin' Up! Retired product. There are still some great items for sale.

Delightful Shaker Card

I love this card that my friend Teri designed. This was her first Shaker Card - don't you love it?

Making shaker cards is so fun and really very easy. Here are a couple of tips

  1. Create a card front with an opening in it - any shape will do.
  2. Cut a piece of Window Sheet large enough to cover the opening, but slightly smaller than the card front.
  3. Cover the opening with a Window sheet securing it around the edges of the opening. This will be the back of your Shaker card front.
  4. Line the opening with the Foam Strips - make sure there is no opening for the filling to slip out.
  5. Sprinkle the Shaker Filling in to the space.
  6. Peel off the "sticky" covering and  attach a piece of card stock that is cut the same size as your card front.
  7. Attach this to your card base.
If you want you can decorate the backing paper (number 6) which will be seen thru the window, Be creative - use stamping, patterned paper or a combination to make a delightful background.

Filling your shaker card is part of the creative process too - Teri used white Mica Flakes.

Stampin' Up! has some great shaker card filling that you can purchase from the holiday catalog:
It's called Mica Flakes trio pack.

Item number 141998 - $9. But you can use sequins, beads or punched shapes. Even candy sprinkles. You be the artist.

Have fun creating your own shaker.

Tips for Stampin' Up! Layering Framelits

I love Stampin' Up! layering framelits - they are a must have.

However, they present one challenge to me - and maybe to you too - I can't always remember which framelit I used on a card. Here's a tip for you that will definitely save you time and frustration.

I store my framelits in a plastic stamp case sold by Stampin' Up! (119105 - $6 for 4 cases). I attach magnetic "paper" to the inside of the case to hold the framelits. I put the magnet paper inside the front cover so that I can see the dies even when the case is closed. This helps me make sure I am not missing any dies before I put the case away.

The magnetic paper I use is a Magnetic Vent Cover that I purchased at the local big box hardware store. It is attached with Tear & Tape.

Then I put a sample of all the dies on the front of the box and make note of the number of dies in the set on the front too:

Because it is very easy to loose the small intricate dies when they stick to the card stock, I do a little count before putting the set away. This has saved me from loosing a small die several times.

I have gone one step further with the layering dies. I have marked the size of the die on the front of the box and I gave each die a number - like this:

I must credit a very talented and clever Stampin' Up! demonstrator, Dawn Olchefske, for the measurements. She has a wonderful tool on her web site that shows the measurements for all Stampin' Up! Dies - HERE is the link.

And I did not think up the number system myself, either - I borrowed it from another demonstrator - unfortunately I cannot remember this talented person's name to give them credit.

On the inside, each die is marked with the corresponding number using a permanent marker. Now when I make a card, all I need to do is note the size of the die on a "sticky" note inside the card and I can easily duplicate that size again, without extra time to measure and compare.

This process has really made using dies easy and it has been great for my card classes too. Hope you got some good ideas today.

Don't forget - today and tomorrow - you can get 25% off the following items. If you check back on Thursday (9/8/16) - I'll be posting a new set of special items

Don't forget to download a copy of the seasonal catalog - you're gonna love it!
