Technique: Emboss Resist with Bubble Wrap

Many Stampin' Up! retired products are going to be missed, like the color Rich Razzleberry, And this card is a great example of how gorgeous Rich Razzleberry is with gold

I had a lot of fun with the background for this card by using bubble wrap and versamark ink to create an emboss resist effect.

Everyone has gotten some bubble wrap packaging material in the mail, right? Next time - save a piece and add this new "tool" to your stash.

I love the way this technique came out. Here's how I did it:

1. Cut Basic White cardstock to 4 1/2" x 3 1/4".

2. Use bubble wrap like a stamp and place Versamark dots at random over the white cardstock.

3. Heat emboss the stamped piece with White Embossing Powder.

4. Use a Blending Brush and Rich Razzleberry ink to blend ink over the top of the embossed images. This will bring out the white dots. Continue to add ink with the blending brush until you have the depth of color you like.

5. Use a tissue or paper towel to wipe off the excess ink. This will make the white dots more distinctive.

6. Use Stampin' Seal to attach the stamped piece to the card base of Rich Razzleberry cardstock which is 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" folded in half.

7. Cut 3 butterflies out of Gold Foil with the Brilliant Wings dies and use glue to attach them to the left side of the card.

8. Stamp the greeting from the Stepping Stones stamp set in Versamark ink on a rectangle of Basic White cardstock that is 2 3/4" x 1 3/4".

9. Heat emboss the greeting with White Embossing powder and use the Blending Brush to cover the stamped image with Rich Razzleberry ink (same as step 4).

10. Use Stampin' Seal to attach the greeting to a piece of cardstock that is 2 7/8" x 1 7/8".

11. Use Stampin' Dimensionals to attach the greeting to card front.

12. Finish the inside of the card with a piece of Basic White cardstock that is 4' x 5 14" and decorated with a few more gold butterflies.

You can add your favorite gems for a bit of a step up - If you want to try it your self, you can download the tutorial.

More Ideas using the  Loveliest Layers Decorative Masks which are retiring. As you can tell, if you have been following the last few posts, I had a lot of fun with these masks.

You'll want to get these before they are gone! Here's one more idea for using the masks --- and I've added a unique twist with bubble wrap.

I used versamark with the mask to create the horizontal gold hash marks then I used Highland Heather ink on a piece of Bubble Wrap to create some fun purple dots behind the gold. Now I have a new stampin tool - bubble wrap (LOL).

MY NEW TOOL

Other Products I used for this card include the Split Card Texture Dies   The True Beauty stamp set was used for the flowers and they were cut out with the Organic Beauty dies.

Two-step Masking Fun with Stampin' Up!

All month I am using my favorite retiring products. Yesterday I used the two-step flowers from the Loveliest Layers Decorative Masks. What fun these masks are.

All the retiring product I used for this card are highlighted in pink.

Today, I;m using the hash mark mask from the Loveliest Layers Decorative Masks - it is also two step although you may not have realized it.

It was fun to create the background for  this card! You may not have realized that the mask can be turned 90 degree to get lines going two different directions. Here's how I created the background.

  • Cut the cardstock for the background a bit oversized so you can use masking tape or washi tap to tape it to your grid paper.
  • Place the mask over the cardstock with the hash marks going up and down and tape it down also.
  • Use a sponge dauber to sponge Versamark Ink over the openings.
  • Remove the mask and heat emboss the cardstock with Black Embossing powder.
  • Place the mask over the cardstock again but turn the hashmarks so they are going sideways -lining them up between the black hash marks.
  • Use the sponge dauber to sponge versamark over the openings in the mask.
  • Remove the mask and heat emboss with White Embossing Powder.
  • Use a blending brush to brush Coastal Cabana Ink over the cardstock.
  • Cut the cardstock to the size you want for the card. The piece i used for this card is 4 1/4" x 2 3/4".

The card base is created wtih Bermuda Bay Cardstock, The background is covered with a grid die cut in Costal Cabana Cardstock with Organic Beauty Dies. The word and the Daisies are from the Sending Smiles Bundle. So many of these products are retiring!

Note: Although the Sending Smiles stamp set and die are not retiring, the bundle price will be gone at the end of April.

Saying Goodby to my Stampin' Up! Favorites

The month of April is a great time to stock up on Retiring Specials from Stampin' Up! And don't forget to stock up on those favorites that will be gone soon!

I made these cards to show case the Lovliest Layers Decorative Masks. And you guessed it! They are retiring - but you can still have some fun with them if you shop now.

Lovliest Layers decorative masks by Stampin' Up! are unique because they allow for two step stamping techniques so you can have fun creating lovely paper craft projects.

On this card I used the layers for the flowers with Flirty Flamingo & Rich Razzleberry on one flower and Pale Papaya & Highland Heather on the other. The leaves are done with Pear Pizzazz and Old Olive layers. These masks are super fun to use and EASY!

Tip - use masking tape or washi tape to hold the card base and the mask still. Use the blending brush to gently swirl the color over the Mask until you have the depth of color you like.

I topped my design with a frame made from Stitched Rectangles dies and some die cuts from Penned Flowers dies. And you guessed it! These are retiring too!

Be sure to stock up on your favorites today.

Retiring Products are highlighted in pink - some of these are on sale for great prices. You will definitly want to take advantage of those.
